City of Syracuse to Start New Work on W. Genesee St. Dig Once Project
Published on April 28, 2023
The City of Syracuse announced crews will begin reconstruction work on the W. Genesee St. Dig Once infrastructure project between Myrtle St. on the Westside and N. Salina St. in Downtown on Monday, May 1.
W. Genesee St. between Avery Ave. and Willis Ave. will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, May 1 as crews replace water and sewer mains. The closure is expected to last one month. Detour signs will be in place to reroute traffic while work is being done.
The City will work to maintain through traffic for the duration of the project and will notify the public in advance of any temporary road closure. The project is expected to be complete in late summer 2024.
Work will include full depth reconstruction of the road including new pavement, new sidewalks, curb installations, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, replacement of water mains and lead water services, rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure, and landscaping improvements.
Dig Once projects signify an enhanced level of coordination with utility providers (water, sewer, telecommunication, gas, etc.) with the goal of replacing and repairing as much underground infrastructure as possible to minimize any future excavations made in newly paved roads.
