An RFP is also open for the acquisition of the Public Safety Building Complex in Downtown Syracuse
Syracuse, N.Y. – Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced the City of Syracuse is calling for proposals for the acquisition and redevelopment of the former Syracuse Fire Station 7 on the city’s east side. The property at 1039 E. Fayette Street includes a two-story structure situated on an 8712 square foot site. It closed as an active fire station in 2013.
The Request for Proposals (RFP) seeks creative and inclusive land use and development strategies for the property, which is situated on the northern edge of University Hill. The City said it prioritizes returning the site to the city tax roll, creating permanent jobs, and adding housing units.
“The old Station 7 has been dormant for more than a decade. Working with the Syracuse Fire Department to ensure the community’s long-term needs are covered, we’ve determined there is a higher and better use for this site for the neighborhood and the people of the city,” said Mayor Walsh. “I look forward to seeing what opportunities are possible through this request for proposals.”
The site, near the growing East Genesee Street neighborhood, is in the new Community Grid corridor being created by the removal of the Interstate 81 viaduct. According to the RFP, “the City is eager to see the redevelopment of the site with an appropriately dense, attractive development that is compatible with the increasingly vibrant surrounding neighborhood.”
Inquiries regarding the RFP are due by March 27. Proposals must be submitted before 2:30 p.m. on April 24. The RFP is available online at Active Bids – City of Syracuse.
On January 27th Onondaga County, in partnership with the City of Syracuse, issued an RFP for the acquisition and redevelopment of the Public Safety Building (PSB) Complex at 511 S. State Street. Owned by the City and County, the complex currently houses the Syracuse Fire and Police Departments, which are being relocated to a new city public safety campus on the West Side.
The PSB complex includes a 79,048 square foot office tower and a 72,182 square foot vacant former corrections facility. RFP submissions for the PSB are due by 3 p.m. on March 10. The RFP for the Public Safety Building Complex is available online at Active Bids – City of Syracuse.
