The City of Syracuse Central Permit Office announced a new requirement for replacing lost or stolen parking permits and metered parking waivers for persons with severe disabilities. The replacement process requires eligible city residents to fill out a new application before re-issuing a replacement. The completed form must be submitted in person to the Central Permit Office, which recently moved to a new location on the first floor of One Park Place at 300 South State Street.
The parking permits and waivers issued by the Central Permit Office are only for city residents with a severe disability impairing mobility. Specific eligibility requirements are listed in each application. A health care provider will need to certify the disability and complete a portion of the application. Applications and more information about parking permits and metered parking waivers are available at syr.gov/disabledparking. To request an application be sent by mail, please call 315-448-8600.
The new requirement will help ensure multiple tags are not issued to a single applicant. If the permit or waiver is damaged and needs to be replaced, the Central Permit Office will allow reissue without completing a new application if the physical tag or card is brought to the office for the exchange.
The Central Permit Office’s new One Park Place location offers a one-stop-shop for anyone needing assistance with residential or commercial building permits, licenses, and inspections. It is conveniently located and has its own main entrance on the south side of the building, on East Onondaga Street. Parking is available for visitors at the One Park Place Parking Lot, located at 343 East Onondaga Street.
Permanently disabled residents also have the option to apply for a New York State issued license plate that permits parking in disabled parking spaces. To obtain license plates for a vehicle, the applicant must be at least 16 years of age and have a vehicle registered in their name. This is a separate process that requires submitting the application to any New York State Department of Motor Vehicles office.
