On Sunday, June 4th, 2023, at approximately 5:05 a.m., Syracuse Police Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 690 eastbound at the Teall Avenue exit. Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle which was unoccupied, heavily damaged, and obstructing the Teall Avenue off-ramp. Shortly after, a female occupant was located nearby and relayed that while traveling on 690 eastbound, another vehicle pulled up starting shooting into their car. The victim stated the driver was hit by gunfire resulting in their vehicle crashing into the barrier. The 22- year-old female passenger was found to have been struck in the hand by gunfire. She was taken in to care by AMR and was transported to Upstate hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the crashed vehicle, a 34-year-old male, was found nearby and presented with a gunshot wounds to the face and arm. He was treated by emergency medical responders with American Medical Response and promptly transported to Upstate Hospital. Once at the hospital, he was found to have been struck by multiple projectiles. The victim remains at the hospital and is in stable condition.
