One Displaced Following Wolf Street Fire

Published on May 16, 2023

Syracuse, NY-On May 16, 2023, at 10:17 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported structure fire at 425 Wolf Street on the City’s North Side. When firefighters from Station 2, on Lodi Street, arrived on the scene moments later, they found a two-story apartment building with smoke showing from the second-floor windows. A ‘Signal 99’ was transmitted, indicating a working fire, and crews began an aggressive interior fire attack.

The building contained six apartments. Fire crews located the fire in a second-floor apartment and were able to contain the flames to the room of origin. However, thick smoke filled the upper floor of the building. Crews of Firefighters performed a thorough search of all the apartments in the structure, including the fire apartment, to ensure there were no trapped occupants. All the searches were negative. The fire took approximately 20 minutes to fully extinguish and confirm there was no extension.

Syracuse Fire Investigators were on the scene working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The fire apartment sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. The second floor sustained smoke damage as well.  The occupant of the apartment where the fire occurred was not able to return to their apartment after the fire; all other occupants of the structure were. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupant. There were no injuries reported to either civilians or Fire Personnel.

A total of 36 fire personnel responded to the scene, including command and support staff. Syracuse Fire Ambulance, Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, National Grid, and the American Red Cross also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at SPD, AMR, National Grid, and the Red Cross.
