Firefighters Extinguish Fire on Southwest Side
Published on April 27, 2023
SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– On April 27, 2023, at 2:34 p.m., the Syracuse Fire Department was alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a possible fire at 110 Palmer Ave, on the City’s Southwest Side. Firefighters from Station 3 on Bellevue Avenue arrived on the scene two minutes later and reported a wood-framed structure with smoke coming from the eaves. Further investigation revealed a fire on the first floor of the building, and a signal ‘99’ was transmitted.
As additional fire units arrived on the scene, firefighters from Engine 3 stretched a hose into the structure and extinguished the fire. Other teams of firefighters searched the building for any trapped occupants and any additional fire. Searches for occupants were negative. The fire was declared under control after approximately 20 minutes. Firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour, working to clear trapped smoke and toxic gases from the building.
Syracuse Fire Investigators are on the scene, working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The building sustained smoke, fire, and water damage. The extent of the damage was lessened thanks to a quick, efficient response from Syracuse Firefighters.
A total of 41 fire personnel responded to this fire, including command and support staff. There were no injuries reported to civilians or fire personnel. Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance, Syracuse Police, American Medical Response, and National Grid also responded to the scene. We thank our partners at SPD, Onondaga County 911, AMR, and National Grid.
