Injured Syracuse Firefighter Released from Hospital
Published on March 21, 2023
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Firefighter injured fighting a structure fire on Park St on March 20, 2023, has been released from the hospital.
The firefighter in question was part of an Engine Company. At a structure fire, Engine Companies are responsible for connecting a supply hose to a fire hydrant, feeding the engine pump, and then stretching fire hoses, or ‘handlines,’ into the structure to fight the fire.
At the Park St fire, the firefighter connected to the hydrant and sent water to the fire engine. Once he completed this task, the firefighter donned his self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and entered the house with his engine crew to assist with the firefight.
The injury occurred as firefighters successfully controlled the fire during interior operations. The firefighter was first evaluated at the scene, then transported to a local hospital by Syracuse Fire Department Ambulance for further evaluation. The firefighter was released from the hospital yesterday evening.
