The City of Syracuse is asking for input from the community on a proposed kayak and canoe launch in Kirk Park with access to Onondaga Creek. The Kirk Park launch will serve all levels of recreational paddlers and will be located on the west side of the creek near the Hunt Avenue trailhead and parking lot, which connects to the Creekwalk.
The design plan will be presented at the Southside TNT meeting on August 1, where the public will be able to provide in-person input. A project website shows the location and visuals of the proposed launch. Public comments can also be submitted through the website until August 15. The City encourages community members who are unable to attend the in-person meeting to provide their input through the site.
The Kirk Park launch is the second of three planned kayak and canoe access points along the Onondaga Creek. An upstream access point was completed at the Seneca Turnpike Pavilion and a downstream launch is planned next at the Syracuse Inner Harbor.
