The public meeting scheduled for Monday, September 30 to further engage residents and community stakeholders in discussions about the Vision Zero initiative and collect their feedback.

Mayor Walsh announced a commitment to become a Vision Zero city in 2023. The goal of the Vision Zero program is to achieve zero fatalities and serious injuries from traffic crashes. The Action Plan will build on ongoing initiatives reducing speeding, making streets more walkable, and making getting around more equitable such as the Municipal Sidewalk Program (MSP), Supplemental Sidewalk Snow Removal Program, automated enforcement in school zones (speed, red light, and bus stop arm cameras), traffic calming (speed humps), signal updates, and access management .

Through Spring 2025, the City’s Action Plan will be implemented by the Department of Public Works (DPW), prioritizes safety by calming traffic and centering the needs of the most vulnerable people traveling on our streets. For this reason, resident feedback is paramount, by pairing data with the experiences of community members, the Action Plan will document safety needs and match each need with proven solutions, the Action Plan will also guide the City on how to make safety the default practice in designing, maintaining, and operating Complete Streets .
