The Collins Block Fire, which occurred on February 3, 1939, stands as one of the most devastating incidents in the history of the Syracuse Fire Department, forever shaping its legacy and commitment to the safety and well-being of the community. This commemoration offers an opportunity to reflect on the profound impact of the event, honor the fallen heroes, and acknowledge the ongoing dedication of firefighters who risk their lives every day to protect Syracuse.

Following the commemoration, the Syracuse Fire Department will swear in 28 recruit firefighters as part of the first class of the 2025 year. This new generation of firefighters will carry forward the department’s long-standing tradition of service and bravery.
