Neighborhood and Business Development Grants

The Department of Neighborhood and Business Development (NBD) oversees federal, state, and local funding for projects that encourage economic growth and improve our neighborhoods. This is an overview of key grants we administer to support community and economic development, housing, and human service needs in the city of Syracuse.

Federal Block Grants

Each year, the City of Syracuse receives Federal Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD). This funding supports the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME).

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)

We award CDBG funds to agencies to develop high-quality affordable housing and support programs for youth, adults, and seniors.

Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)

We award ESG funding to support organizations focused on preventing homelessness and helping people find housing after a crisis.

Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME)

We award HOME funds to agencies and developers to help build new homes, redevelop existing properties, and fund projects that offer developer subsidies and direct homebuyer assistance.

Other Federal, State, and Local Grants

Syracuse Lead Grant Program

Learn how qualified homeowners and tenants can receive assistance to help reduce lead-based paint hazards in City of Syracuse homes with young children. Common repairs provided by the program are new windows, doors, siding, and porch work.

University Neighborhood Service Agreement Advisory Committee (UNSAAC)

We award UNSAAC grants to agencies that promote housing preservation and improvements, community support, or park and public space improvements within the surrounding neighborhoods of Syracuse University.
